Our good friend was in town during the holidays, and we finally caught up with her after Christmas. It was a FREEZING that Wednesday after work. I made my way down to Café Iberio with my other friend who picked me up. It was definitely one of those days you could not be outside no more than 5 minutes. In the end, the rest of the girls showed up, and we had a blast with sangria and tapas. I just want my friends to be happy. At this point, all of us are dealing with things on our own. It’s nice to get together one in a while and just laugh…

Ladies night at Cafe Iberico
I am an introvert at heart and although I love a great party; I get worn out with too many social settings. Sometimes I need to lounge around in my apartment and think. When the holidays were happening, I felt overwhelmed at times, especially since I was still processing the loss of loved ones. I took every opportunity to rest and take care of myself when I was alone, in order to switch back “on” and deal with people.

Lunch meeting at Cafe Iberico!
First up, Café Iberico!! It's one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. I've been coming here close to 20 years. The good news is, not everyone in our meeting has had their food. It was nice ordering a bunch of stuff for them. They have a pretty big menu, and since some of us were observing Lent, we ordered a seafood salad with grilled octopus and garlic shrimp to start off. I LOVE their spicy potatoes!!! Super delish!! We also tried a Spanish potato dish as well to compare the difference. At one point, things got out of hand and we kept ordering and ordering. There were beef skewers with caramelized onions, salmon with asparagus, and a Spanish tamale which were devoured. I can't believe we ended up getting dessert! The ice-cream with banana has been a favorite among patrons for years.
We had to rush back to work because we were also giving away some pre-Valentine treats for everyone! We ordered enough individualized Cheryl's cookies for people to take back to their desks that day. I love bringing cheer at work! Sometimes you need a late afternoon snack to keep you going.
By the time I got home, I had to get ready for my mom's dinner. After all of that, there was more food to come! My brother enjoyed every minute of it. I love seeing my family happy. My mom is discussing some up coming changes. I didn't realize she had so much on her mind. Hopefully, things will all work out and we can look into the future together as a family. She's been through a lot and I want her to get the clarity she needs to move into the next stage of her life: retirement.

Tis the Season for PARTIES!!
Time for another throwback Thursday. Since I'm still recollecting on December, I didn't realize I attended other parties besides the Holidays. One of my friends celebrated her birthday at Cafe Iberico for brunch. This was a fun gathering, mostly because, WHO DOESN'T LOVE CAFE IBERICO?? It has been around since 1992 serving tapas from all over Spain. I usually take friends that are new to Chicago since you can find something for everyone. I especially love the mussels and garlic shrimp. YUMMY! The sangria is the best in the city too. We had a great time catching up with everyone.
Birthday flan cake!
Cheese!!
Another memorable party was our annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party! Our friend usually throws this one every year, but this time it was bitter sweet since she has now moved to sunny California. We definitely did not want to miss her last farewell to this fun group. I bought my sweater from Sears, but a lot of people ordered their sweaters on-line. There are some pretty creative ones, especially the customized versions. Take a look!

Even Darth Vadar was in the house!
His sweater has an attached teddy bear!
My pregnant friend and her wreath!
Yes these polar bears are doing the naughty!
