New Year’s Day Dinner

One of my resolutions this year is to try to balance my time with my family and friends.  In the end, they are the people who matter to me the most.  Sometimes we get caught up on what’s new on the social scene, that we push the ones we love aside in order to meet new people and been “seen”.  I’ve learned as I’ve gotten older that pretentious people don’t matter at all.  They sometimes make you feel important, but in the end, you’re just another player added to their games.  It gets tiring after a while.  With my dad soon retiring himself, I want to make sure he transitions into this next phase much more smoothly than my mom.  He’s five years older than her and I worry that he pushes himself too hard.
His wife invited us over to have a New Year’s Day dinner.  Even though my parents divorced back when I was a kid, my dad became involved in our lives as we were adults.  I am beginning to enjoy our moments together and getting to know him more.  He’s very talkative, except when it comes to himself.  All I could do is observe and learn.
We had a nice dinner and a few laughs.  It’s nice hanging out with the men in my life.
As usual it was FREEZING on New Year’s Day.

Black Friday

I ended up purchasing a cardholder before Black Friday.  Farfetch sent me a pre-sale link and I couldn’t resist.  Luckily I got it delivered before we were off from work for Thanksgiving.  I love it!
My mom invited me to come with her to my aunt and uncle’s.  They will not be celebrating Christmas with us so they decided to host a dinner.  They invited some friends of theirs and my mom wanted me to be her date.  I figured why not.
This turned out to be a great idea.  Again, different people; different stories.  Since I’m not in a sociable mood it’s refreshing to hear other people talk about themselves.  Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and that made me happy, too.  I loved the fact that my aunt cooked salmon for dinner.  Since the night before was Thanksgiving, it was a great way to enjoy a lighter meal.

My first time having Japanese nuts and I’m hooked!

Family pictures at my uncle’s place.

Time for some Omega 3.

I need to get my sweaters to the cleaners.  I luckily found this cardi wrap to wear.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Fiesta!

Today's Throwback Thursday takes us back to my friend's annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party.  She moved to California last Spring and was visiting Chicago for the holidays.  In the past she's been known to throw some pretty awesome house parties.  We all missed her dearly when she left, so it was a nice surprise she managed to pull this together at the last minute.  Since Saturday fell after Christmas, she chose to host it then.  Luckily, I was shopping around for some after Christmas sales goodies when I found this sweater from h&m.  Not bad for $10.  I found some cute things to add to next year's Christmas decorations.  But for now, I was done for Christmas.  No more holiday décor shopping for me.  I figured every year they showcase different things to decorate.  Building up a Christmas collection DOES take time.
It was nice seeing my friends at the party.  Not all of them made it out, but we had a blast regardless.  I definitely think getting together with friends for laughs is the best form of therapy!

Good times catching up...

My H&M sweater up close.  I can't wait to wear it again next year!

My copper reindeer from Target.  Reduced half price.  Love her fur shrug!  lol
