Labor Day Madness
I’m recapping Labor Day Weekend before I went on my big trip.
Since I only purchased one day for North Coast Festival that Friday, I figured I would do my chores and usual leg day routine at the gym the next. One of our friends was in town from Michigan but she wanted to meet at Brookfield Zoo around 1pm. I wasn’t sure which of my other friends were going so I could bum a ride. I do not own a car, but lately, it’s become harder to meet up with my friends. Some of them have kids and have moved out of the city. I was thinking maybe in the distant future I should consider getting one, but who knows.
I didn’t have any plans until the evening when our other friend invited us to her place in Skokie. We headed over there and hung out all night. It was fun catching up.
The next day, our other friend was planning a Labor Day bbq in her new home. She bought a house not far from where I live in the city, which is nice because I can actually see her from time to time. Lol
Once at the bbq it was food galore. I was having a good time until another friend was messaging me. She wanted to go out. It was nearing 7pm but she insisted Estate was the place to be right now. I had to go home and change. I ordered an uber and off I went.
I messaged my friend that I was on my way once I was dressed. We got to Estate around 9pm and she was right! Apparently they had a block party happening along with djs on stage. People were dancing all over the place. I was enjoying myself.
Because of the noise ordinance, the crowd came into Estate after 10pm. I didn’t realize how packed it could get on a Sunday night, but then again, it was Labor Day weekend. I saw some familiar faces, too! Once it got close to midnight, we decided to go to another spot.
A few of us headed to Tunnel in River North. Again, it was nice seeing more familiar faces and catching up. I wasn’t paying attention to the time at all. Next thing you know, Tunnel was announcing last call. We still didn’t have enough. We wanted to head to a later spot.
People started heading to different spots but now me and our new group decided to go to Underground. It still tops as one of the number one venues in River North. Luckily we got in but the vibe inside was amazing! I forgot how much fun I have in this place.
I felt a little guilty the next day on Labor Day on all of the spots I went to that night. I haven’t gone out like that in a while. I can’t help but think how much more of this I have left in me. What can you do when you live in the city?

Rib fest Cook-off!
My mom’s big move is coming up on the 15th! This is going to be interesting seeing her downsize from her home to an apartment. I am considering doing something like this in the future as well.
My love of traveling has taken over my lackluster love life. Lol. It’s funny but it’s true. Putting myself out there, trying to figure out which direction I turn to—left or right, reading people’s faces, making sacrifices for the sake of learning a new city, all remind me of falling in love. Unlike men, traveling has not let me down! I want to explore more and meet new people from all over the world. I know I’m late in the game, but I’m excited for the upcoming years to come. I haven’t felt like that in a very long time.
I hope my mom will be able to join me. One thing I’ve realized is traveling is not for everybody, and I’m not sure if my mom would WANT to do something like this with me. I want her to embrace life again. Since I’m currently not in a relationship, and she is a widow herself, I would hope she would get the same feeling I have about seeing new places. Who knows?
Back to my recaps! After my work party the following day was Saturday. For the most part, I wanted to take it easy, until my friend called me up inviting me to a cook off. Her boyfriend’s family in Frankfurt hosts an annual rib fest cook off every summer. Participants each cook their secret recipes and then get judged from their neighbors who are in the panel. After they make their decision, friends and family get to try the ribs themselves and try to guess who the winner is. There’s even a trophy ceremony! That Saturday was pretty perfect with good food and friends. I love summer!

July 4th Weekend Part 4
On the day of July 4th my dad wanted us to stop by for a bbq. As a product of divorce, I want to be there for both my parents but during holidays it could be difficult. I spent the early part of the day reading outside on my balcony. I love being out there. It’s my tranquility during my most sociable times.
I wore red, white and distressed blue jeans for the bbq. The weather was perfect to wear jeans since I knew we would be outside. Mosquitos love me so I wanted my legs covered up.
My dad is insisting on going to Puerto Rico this Christmas. I will have to see this to believe it. In the meantime, I’m sticking to my budget in case he is really serious.

Plan B
There was a time when I wasn't so nervous about things. I was pretty sure I knew what was "the plan". Now, not so much. Everything got shifted when me and my ex broke up. We were working on getting our finances together so we could buy a place. Around the time we ended things, he had worked out his bankruptcy. Nice. Time for the next move.
Then boom. Everything ended and I was left to figure out what to do next on my own. I hadn't saved any money. My best friend whom I've known since I was 16 years old had just gotten married to a woman who advised him not to speak to me anymore. And my other friend met a man and had moved to Italy. Just like that. I lost not only my boyfriend of 7 years but my two closest friends in the whole wide world. I was in so much emotional pain, I couldn't comprehend what was happening. How did I miss this?
Maybe fate brought me here. A lot of my friends ended up meeting their significant others as time moved on. Of course they would pair up now, I was in a relationship for so long and they were single. Now that tables have turned I had to figure out what to do with myself without them around as much. Over the past 4 years I've been single, I've made new friends; dated, and have accustomed to doing things on my own for enjoyment. I am trying to learn Italian so I could blend well with my girlfriend's friends out in Italy. I go to concerts/ shows that I enjoy on my own without any interruption. And once I week if I could, I practice new recipes on my own (I'm a terrible cook although my ex did eat at his own risk). Traveling came out of no where because my friend pushed me to come out and visit her. I would have never done it on my own if it wasn't for her.
I came to the realization that maybe what I wanted for so long is just not in the stars for me. If that's the case, then how do I fill up a life without my plan A? What path should I head to now? Where do I go from here?
For the time being, I will follow my passions. The things I love to do. Around my birthday I grew very sad, but then felt hopeful when I purchased my plane ticket to Greece. It was short lived because some days I battled feelings of depression. I finished the book "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind" and it helped me learn how to tap into my imagination. With the use of meditation and prayer, it makes you focus on your wants and desires from your subconscious mind. It takes a lot of work but it does make me feel better. Painting a pleasurable picture in your head daily works wonders for your mind.
My job had our annual summer party downstairs outside at the lawn area last Friday. This year we kept it low key. The weather had dipped back into the 70s so I wore my jeans and an bright orange top for a pop of color. Nothing major. I truly enjoy where I work at and figured I could hangout for a bit even though my cough was acting up that day. They handed out Garrett's popcorn which was a big hit. It was bbq themed. We had some good times playing around with pokemon go. That helped liven it up a bit. lol. Until next time!

Happy birthday America...
Terrorism and racism has been the subject for hundreds of years. We've read throughout the horrors of history on how hate has caused genocide, war, and a loss of civilian lives. What's staggering to me is that it's 2016 and we've come back to a full circle. There has been no progression whatsoever, and even though we are taught that in our culture, everyone is welcomed and free to express who they are in our country, there has always been backlash that comes along with it. The roots of racism has been passed down too far along. There seems to be no means to an end.
I am saddened to hear so much chaos in all parts of the world. It's an uneasy feeling when others are aware on what's going on, but are not willing to help. Whether it's countries hiding genocide, or police men standing by murdering police men, no one is stepping in or speaking out about these crimes. Have we gotten so use to the fact that these incidents are just a part of life? What has happened to us along the way?
I had remembered Princess Diana soon after the holiday. Her birthday had passed on July 1st, and she was brought up again on social media. I cannot name anyone who has touched so many people since her passing. She was a beautiful woman who truly loved people, regardless of their circumstances. From her countless charity work, she would give her undivided attention to the hopeless. Her smile was contagious. I miss her dearly.
If we could only learn by example how harmless it is being gracious with one another? To love and cherish every human being! To learn from one another our differences! It seems so hopeless with all of the destructiveness going on in the world. I am fearing our lives on what it has become at this point. Have we made it to the point of no return? Are we going to continue living like this until we are all wiped out? Is this how it ends, people turning against people?
I cherish the memories I made last weekend. I made it to Chicago SummerDance on Friday after work. It was the start of a three day holiday, and the city was crowded with tourists. I was excited to meet up with my friends because we knew we were going to have a good time. Mickey Mixin Oliver was headlining the event. He was at the Hot Mix 5 event I went to a few weeks back. More house music to dance to. We had so much fun that day! I loved watching people walk over to the sound of the music. Some had no idea what was going on until they started to dance themselves. What a moment to be carefree!
The next day I met up with some friends to watch the Italy vs Germany soccer game. This was a big one, with Germany winning by penalty. My friend in Italy was messaging me at the same time. I felt bad Italy lost since she mentioned the whole town was watching this game. There went their Saturday night...
The next day was Sunday, which I assumed even thought technically it was the 3rd that people would be shooting off fireworks. My friends held a bbq at their place. We laughed and told stories while the neighbors shot off fireworks. I had a joyous holiday!
Since the 4th fell on a Monday, I ran my errands then. I did not expect so many fireworks being shot off that night. I had to get up early the next day for work, but I know better now. I ended my night talking to my mom and checking up with her.
Then the rest of the week happened.
Today is Friday, and I am glad this work week is over. I am going to tune out social media as well as the news for the rest of the weekend. I just want to see my friends and check up on them. I want to love the people in my life for now. Until next post. Take care and be safe and don't forget to love...
