Labor Day Weekend Sunday

That Labor Day Sunday my mom wanted me and my brothers to come over for dinner.   A friend of mine seemed a bit down, so we decided to catch up for afternoon cocktails.  We had talked on the phone the day before but since I was meeting my friend from Rhode Island, we couldn’t find time to hangout with one another.  I figured I could squeeze in some fun before my mom’s dinner since she usually serves around 6:30pm.  I wanted to show my friend the rooftop at London House since she was staying nearby.  Luckily, Chicago was beautiful that day.  Not a cloud in the sky!
I made my way downtown and was surprised how packed it was for a Sunday afternoon.  Over the years, downtown could be a ghost town especially during holiday weekends.  There are a lot of transplants here in the city, and a majority of them fly out back home during the holidays.  But it seems a ton of tourists decided to be in town for Labor Day, and they were all hanging around the Chicago River.
Our wait wasn’t too bad to get inside.  We ordered some wine at the bar before heading up to the rooftop.  She loved it!  We wanted to grab a table so we walked up to the host.  She was super sweet!  We were having a good time discussing Chicago’s nightlife.  We eventually got a table, and our host would come up to check up on us.  In the end, my friend and her hit it off and exchanged numbers.  They wanted to go out after her shift, but I had to head back home for my mom’s dinner.  I was up in the air about meeting up with them later.  My mom had just came back from Mexico and I wanted to hear about her trip.
My brother picked me up at my train stop and we headed over to my mom’s place.  She absolutely LOVED her trip!  I felt bad because she confessed that she started to cry at the airport when her friends dropped her off.  I realized that she had spent 7 whole days with her friends and she must have gotten attached to being around them.  She’s still lonely being by herself at the apartment, even though she has her dog with her.  I need to be around more…

Mannequin Challenge Accomplished

I can't believe I'm reliving our mannequin challenge back in early November.  lol.  By now we've seen it all on social media.  I think I like the doggy challenges the best.  Too cute!
Tomorrow is my work holiday party.  They decided to throw it on a Thursday instead to see if it will be well attended.  I'll let you know how that turned out.
Anyways, back on World Series Wednesday, everyone at work struggled to come in the following day.  We weren't sure if they were going to hold the Cubs rally that Friday or the upcoming Monday.  Everyone had Cubs fever and we were patiently waiting to hear from the mayor.  Luckily he made the announcement early afternoon.  With little time to spare, we decided to throw a rally viewing party here at the firm.  We've done it before with the Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup.  It's fun because we order food and bring in a flat screen tv so we could watch all the action during lunchtime.  I love that we do this here at work!!  We're proud of our Chicago teams!
The day of the rally we had someone pick up specially made Cubs cookies which were a hit!  We also held a raffle for new Cubs merchandise.  It was amazing to see our team head down to Grant Park.  I had friends that were at the rally and they said it was insane.  So many people showed up to see them.  Our city was glowing with pride.
That evening my friends were still celebrating from being out all day at the rally.  I went home to freshen up and made my way back to Wrigley Field.  The city had blocked off the roads because people wouldn't get off Clark Street.  It turned out to be a big block party with everyone bar hopping from one place to another.  We had a great time.

Friday night after the rally.  Too many people were stopping by to check out the sign.

Bar hopping at Barcelona.

The following day I met up with my friends again in the evening at London House.  They were entertaining a friend who was in town for the rally.  By now everyone was pooped out with all of the Cubs hoopla, but we managed to do our mannequin challenge there at our table.  I loved that we got ours out of the way, although I have to admit, it was pretty fun to do.  If only we had done this at Wrigley Field when the Cubs won the Series...that would have been EPIC!

Decided to play it safe with all black.

I almost forgot about my leopard wedge boots.

Luckily they let us outside on the rooftop because the weather wasn't too bad.

My friends are too silly.  Gearing up for the mannequin challenge.

London House!

After the devastating news that surrounded us last week, I was grateful my friends wanted to meet up for drinks.  I've been very sensitive lately, and I knew in my heart I wanted to see familiar faces.  My friends are definitely the close family I wish I had.  They know how to make me feel better.  I'm nervous about my upcoming trip, and getting together was just what I needed.
I made my way down there before anyone else.  I noticed there was a pretty intense line.  I figured I would wait it out until my friends arrived.  If the line wouldn't move up much, I would assume we would go somewhere else.  Don't get me wrong, people did leave.  I understand not wanting to wait 45 minutes to get inside a venue.  But the host insisted it would be worth the wait, and she was right!
I finally walked in and I fell in love!  What a beautiful view!  People couldn't help themselves with their selfie posts.  My friends were finally on their way and I gave them a heads up.  I made some new friends myself waiting in line and we all walked over to the bar.  This place gave us a rush.  We were living for the moment!
I had a wonderful night with everyone.  It made me love my friends even more.  I wish I can keep everyone close to me, but I know deep down that's impossible.  No matter where our paths lead us, they will always be in my heart.  I wish things would get better in our world.  I've never felt an uncertainty about where things are going in this lifetime than I do now.  I will never give up on wanting a better life for ourselves, free of hate and violence.  It's moments like these that make it feel possible for peace...
London House!

It's gorgeous at night!

Couldn't help myself for a selfie...
